MA DPU Approves Demand Charges for Residential Customers
After a ruling by its Department of Public Utilities, Massachusetts may be one of the first states to allow utilities to charge a separate demand charge to residential customers who are getting electricity from their own solar power system but remain connected to the grid.
Eversource residential customers who install solar-electric systems before December 31, 2018 will be grandfathered under the old rates. Homeowners installing a solar power system in Massachusetts after January 1, 2019 may be subject to the new residential demand charge.
