The United States has notified the World Trade Organization that it is considering imposing emergency tariffs on imported solar cells.

The tariffs would apply only to crystalline silicon photovoltaic cells, whether or not they are partially or fully assembled into other products, and would apply to imports from any country.

The U.S. International Trade Commission will make a determination on the safeguard investigation, initiated on behalf of U.S. solar panel manufacturer Suniva, by Sept. 22. If it decides to impose tariffs, the ITC will deliver its proposal to the president by Nov. 13

VALHALLA, NY: Ross Solar, a Con Edison Solutions company, has completed the first of three solar installations totaling 2.6 megawatts for Jetro Restaurant Depot at the company’s College Point facility in Queens, New York.  The SunPower® Helix Roof Solution, a fully integrated commercial solar power platform, features 2,196 high-efficiency SunPower E-Series solar panels, once again demonstrating the viability of large scale solar installations in New York City.

According to estimates provided by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the 718 kilowatt College Park solar power system will offset 641 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually. This is equivalent to 1,535,633 fewer miles driven by an average passenger vehicle, or equal to the carbon sequestered by 16,606 tree seedlings grown for ten years.

“Solar is an important component of our long term strategy, helping us to reduce operational expenses and remain competitive, while underscoring our commitment as a responsible corporate partner to increase renewable energy use,” said Jetro Chief Operating Officer Peter Claro. “Ross Solar’s unwavering commitment to quality, customer service, and full transparency, together with their expertise in navigating the complexities of large scale solar installations in New York City, made them the right partner for our high profile renewable energy projects.”

“We applaud Jetro’s commitment to implementing leading solar technology that will deliver operational savings for the company, and contribute to a secure, reliable renewable energy future for New York,” said Robert Kline of Ross Solar.

The solar installation was made possible through incentives secured by Ross Solar on Jetro’s behalf from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) through Governor Cuomo’s NY-Sun Initiative.

VALHALLA, NY:  Ross Solar, a Con Edison Solutions company, has begun preparations to install a third record-setting solar project for Gengras Motor Cars at the dealership group’s Chrysler / Dodge / Jeep / Ram facility on Connecticut Blvd., in East Hartford, Conn.  The SunPower® HelixTM Roof Solution, a fully integrated commercial solar power platform, will feature 954 high efficiency SunPower E-Series solar panels.  Upon completion, the installation will be the largest single SunPower rooftop solar installation to date in East Hartford, Conn.

In 2015, Ross Solar installed two separate SunPower solar power systems for Gengras Motor Cars at their Volvo and Chevrolet facilities on Connecticut Blvd., totaling 418 kilowatts in size, which at the time were the two largest single SunPower rooftop solar installations in East Hartford.

According to estimates provided by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the  forthcoming installation will offset 266 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually, representing a reduction in Co2 emissions equivalent to not burning 283,559 pounds of coal each year, and equal to the carbon sequestered by 6,887 tree seedlings grown for ten years.

East Hartford-based Gengras Motor Cars has been a leading member of the Connecticut business community since 1937, with Volvo, Chevrolet, Dodge / Chrysler / Jeep / Ram, and Harley Davidson showrooms and service facilities on Connecticut Blvd., as well as a Volvo dealership in North Haven, Conn., a BMW dealership in Springfield, Mass., and a Honda dealership in Lebanon, NH.

“Solar is an important component of our long-term strategy, helping us to reduce operational expenses and remain competitive, while underscoring our commitment as a responsible corporate partner to grow renewable energy in East Hartford, ” said third-generation Gengras Motor Cars Co-Owner Jonathan Gengras.  “Ross Solar’s commitment to quality, customer service, and full transparency, echoes our pledge to our own customers, and once again makes them the clear choice as the right partner for us.”

The project was made possible through awards that Ross Solar secured on Gengras Motor Cars’ behalf through the Connecticut ZREC program.

“We are proud to partner with Gengras Motor Cars again on this high-profile renewable energy project, and we appreciate the confidence and the level of trust that the Gengras Family continues to place in us,” said Robert Kline, PV Solar Consultant at Ross Solar.
